The Judges behind the Bold Call are no ordinary folks; they’re storytellers, artists, and passionate defenders of the African narrative. They’re the guardians of African awesomeness, and they’re ready to shape the stories that will define Africa for generations.
These are the judges of the 2023 Bold Call, the people who helped to shape this issue and storytellers who are making Africa’s voices loud and clear.
Loic Ekinga is a writer from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is the author of the poetry collection, How To Wake A Butterfly (Odyssey Books, 2021). His works of fiction and poetry have appeared in Agbowò, Type/Cast Magazine, Salamander Ink, Ja. Magazine, Poetry Potion, A Long House, New Contrast, Brittle Paper and Kalahari Review. His experimental mini chapbook, Twelve Things You Failed at As A Man Today, was an honourable mention by JK Anowe for Praxis Magazine Online. In addition, his short story Loop has been adapted into a short film by Vivanation. He is a finalist in Poetry Africa’s Slam Jam competition and A Best Of The Net nominee. He is currently the Managing Editor for TVO TRIBE.
Byagaba Roland is a Ugandan ICT and media/communications professional, creative, and entrepreneur. He runs Muwado, an African storytelling platform, among other projects at BadidiTech, his ICT company.
Davina Philomena Nassozi-Kawuma is a writer of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Her short fiction has been shortlisted for the Short Story Day Africa Prize, the Afritondo Short Story Prize, and the Gerald Kraak Prize.
