We started to take steps towards our dreams, dressed in a sound determination and an unquestioned hard work. We built so much but were never contented with any. So were turned to our pool of dreams to find us the right vision. We gave anything to find it, looked all over in vain but took the imagination we found. And since then, we’ve never turned back. For we learned that imagination births vision and no dream thrives without a direction, a picture in mind.
“Imagine an AIDS-free generation. It begins, with you” was a common health advert on UBC-TV growing up. The power of imagination, ability to create, to breathe hope into life. Imagine Uganda in the next thirty years, imagine your newborn in the next ten years acting all grown and telling you how uncomfortable calling them “butter cheeks” makes them feel. We’re driven by imagination, stirred by a little passion. Just imagine yourself in the next duration of time, it doesn’t have to be years or months. It could be in the next fortnight or three days. Remember, we are what we imagine and only get as far as the images we put on replay.
When we think of great transformation in various fields, say a perfect road network throughout the country, an average income for every citizen, the entertainment industry becoming the greatest in Africa, it doesn’t mean everything must be an achievement in our time. See, visions take their time. They must be well planned and well-executed. And a vision’s primary stage is a well-thought imagination. One of the reasons we lag in the development sector is because people are selfish. Yes, selfish. They dream big dreams and work as hard to see them see the light but, they want to achieve everything on their own. They want to be the guys remembered for each and everything yet imagination should enable us to think with others, build for the future, for generations and ages to come. Sometimes we are the sacrificial lamb for our children’s children to take pride in the land we toiled to better. So as you leave your bed every morning on your way to building that dream, remember, that you don’t build just for now or only your family but for generations and generations to come. I mean, where is the love for your country, this world, if you only work for the good of your self and those you call family?
