Ibua Journal exists to serve readers with new writing by emerging writers living on the African continent. 

Our specific focus is literary writing. 

While we have a special interest in helping new authors get published, we gladly welcome work from acclaimed writers.

We seek to publish fiction, memoirs, features, & poems making use of literary techniques to drive new insights into life and the human condition on the African continent.

Our philosophy is Obuntu. We are because you are.

Magazine Section

We publish literary, art, and cultural criticism; literary journalism, historical and societal analysis; and travel essays. 

Length is from 1,000–3,000 words. 

Stories Section

We publish fiction, memoirs, travel stories, histories, and personality profiles. 

Length is from 4,000–15,000 words. 

Poetry Section

 The minimum word count for the poetry section is 100 words.

Submissions should be made in Word format through the submissions tab on the main menu.

We generally accept submission on call basis, but open submissions are welcome.

Copyright is retained by the author at all times. Authors are free to resell the work on condition that they give us a 90-day exclusive from our first publication of the work.

Payments are on project basis. We only pay for stories that have made our editors’ final selection, however, our general policy is to publish as many writers as possible so all stories eligible for release are published.
